My dual background in fine art and commercial art, specifically marketing and media communications, has lead me to develop a style that borrows from both popular culture and subcultures. Combined with an interest in Surrealism and Pop Art, my work explores the re-contextualization of ordinary objects, where a conscious choice of materials alters the perception and function of such quotidian objects. I typically draw inspiration from my childhood memories and notions of cultural displacement. In addition, much of my art communicates a social critique of mass consumption by exploiting the paradox of consumerism and the power of iconography. I strive to make work that mimes the concepts and aesthetics behind manufactured products and that which engenders rumination on the boundaries between “high” and “low.”
